🌿 MUSTARD SEED CRUSHING PLANT

 

 


 1. Raw Seed Handling

  • Procurement: Purchase mustard seeds from farmers or suppliers.

  • Cleaning: Removal of dust, sand, stones, and impurities.

  • Drying (if needed): To reduce moisture content below 8% for efficient oil extraction.

  • Storage: Silos or warehouses with proper ventilation to avoid spoilage.

 2. Crushing & Oil Extraction Process

 

Mechanical Extraction (Traditional & Modern Oil Expeller)

  • Expeller Pressing: Mustard seeds are crushed using screw presses to extract oil.

  • Single Pressing or Double Pressing methods used for better yield.

Cold Pressing (Optional)

  • Retains natural aroma and nutritional quality.

  • Used for premium edible mustard oil.


 3. Oil Filtration & Processing

 

  • Primary Filtration: Using cloth or mesh filters to remove seed particles.

  • Secondary Filtration: Pressure filters or plate filters for fine purification.

  • Refining (Optional):

    • Neutralization, Bleaching, Deodorization – Mostly skipped for mustard to retain pungency.

Note: Pure Kachhi Ghani mustard oil is typically unrefined to retain its natural flavor.


4. Mustard Cake (Meal) Processing

  • High-protein by-product left after oil extraction.

  • Used as:

    • Cattle & poultry feed

    • Organic fertilizer

  • Often dried, ground, and packed in bags for distribution.


5. By-Products & Value Addition

  • Essential Mustard Oil: Extracted via steam distillation for cosmetic, medicinal use.

  • Bio-Fertilizer: Cake mixed with bio-waste and EM solution.

  • Oil Sludge / Soapstock: Used in soap-making or industrial applications.


6. Packaging & Distribution

  • Oil Packaging:

    • Bottles (500ml, 1L), tins (5L), drums (15L), flexitanks (for export).

    • Branded retail packaging with FSSAI, AGMARK certification.

  • Cake Packaging:

    • Gunny or PP bags (25kg/50kg).


7. Quality Control & Lab Testing

  • Oil Quality Checks:

    • FFA (Free Fatty Acids), moisture, pungency level, color, and density.

  • Cake Testing:

    • Protein content, fiber, ash level.

  • Certifications: ISO, FSSAI, BIS, AGMARK (India).
